Two local organizations reaped the benefit of almost $7,000 in donations when the Oakdale Rotary Club purchased much needed equipment for the groups.
“We raised some money several years ago for a different project,” said Oakdale Rotary Club president Scott Abell.
Abell said the initial project never came to fruition, so the Rotary began looking for other organizations with a need. Their search led them to the Family Support Network and Oakdale Community Sharing.
“We asked them about their needs; raising money for capital improvement projects is tough,” Abell said.
Abell said Rotary discovered Family Support Network was still operating with the chairs it originally purchased when the organization started. He said with the amount of meetings the Family Support Network holds, the $3,100 worth of new chairs will be put to good use.
“Karen (O’Bannon, director of the Family Support Network) does a fantastic job,” Abell said.
He added that Rotary members asked Bill Dyer of Community Sharing what equipment would make their organization better, and they had a laptop computer on their wish list.
“They had an antiquated system,” Abell noted.
With the donation of a new $2,600 computer, Community Sharing will be able to upgrade their computer lists.
“We took funds that were just sitting there,” Abell said of the donations.
Bill Dyer of Community Sharing said the new laptop will be a great help in allowing the organization to fulfill its mission.
“With all the paperwork we require, it will make us more effective,” he said.
