In their final game of the year, the Oakdale varsity football Mustangs got their biggest win ever – claiming the Division 3A State Championship in a 47-0 thrashing of Bishop’s of La Jolla.

The game, Saturday night in La Jolla, saw a large contingent of Oakdale faithful make the trip and cheer the Mustangs on to the victory in the state battle of Northern California’s best against the best from the South. It was really no contest, as the host Bishop’s team had no answer for the Wing-T offense utilized by the Mustangs and couldn’t get much going against a defense that has only gotten stronger as the season has progressed.

Oakdale, with the team heading down earlier in the week to get settled in and have some practice time, had all its weapons firing as they methodically dismantled the host squad.

Upon the team’s arrival back in Oakdale late Sunday afternoon, fans lined the streets to welcome them home as state champions.
