The lengthy string of triple-digit days over the past couple of weeks saw local residents step up to assist the Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave., which is a designated Stanislaus County Cooling Center. Library staffer Jana Ciccarelli shows the donations of cases of water, some fresh fruit and granola bars and other snacks that were brought in by residents. Library officials said they were buoyed by the generosity of the community. Anytime the temperatures soar, locals are reminded to stop in at the library for a quiet place to cool down. The library is open Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
