Home Damaged By Hit And Run Vehicle

Oakdale Police are investigating an early morning crash on Sunday, April 8 that damaged a home and caused it to catch on fire.

Police report that at about 3:20 a.m., they responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with a residence in the 800 block of East J. The vehicle and the residence subsequently caught fire. The driver of the car, police said, fled the scene and the family in the home was able to evacuate safely, without injury.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and the police called in assistance from a Stanislaus County K9 Officer, who responded to the scene to help locate the suspect, described as a male driver.

The driver was later located walking on Ranger Street some hours after the crash. No information is being released about the driver pending further investigation. American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the evacuated family with emergency shelter.
