CHP patch

The California Highway Patrol reported that units responded to a single vehicle collision on Camanche Parkway South, just south of Campo Seco Road in Calaveras County on Saturday morning, Dec. 27, just after 6:45 a.m.

CHP Officers found a 1997 Toyota Celica had gone off the roadway and crashed into the dirt embankment. The driver, Thomas Ferrera, 54, of Oakdale was declared dead at the scene. Calaveras CHP investigators said Ferrera was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and there were no passengers in the car. The accident was still being investigated.

On Monday, Dec. 29, Calaveras County Deputy Coroner Glenn Moore stated the cause of death to Ferrera was a fatal heart attack he appeared to have suffered while driving on Camanche Parkway.

Traffic investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call the CHP San Andreas office at (209) 754-3541.
