A two vehicle accident resulted in one confirmed fatality at Highway 120 and Kennedy Road in the Knights Ferry area early Thursday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. and involved a pick up truck and a car, with the accident just west of Kennedy Road along the highway.

Initial reports are that the passenger vehicle veered into the other lane into the path of the oncoming pick up truck.

The impact of the crash forced closure of the road for extensive clean up with fire, ambulance, CHP and Caltrans crews all responding to the scene. Just after 9 a.m., authorities were awaiting the arrival of the coroner and indicated one person was deceased on the scene.
