Donations Being Sought For National Night Out

Tuesday, Aug. 6 will be observed as the 30th National Night Out, which now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all over 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. River Paradise Mobile Estates will be hosting an event open to any resident of Oakdale. Last year’s event was attended by nearly 250 Oakdale residents.

The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

While the Oakdale Police Department has no funds for the yearly event, they are assisting four Neighborhood Watch Groups such as River Paradise Mobile Estates in the efforts to share crime prevention tips and bring awareness as to what you can do to help keep Oakdale safe.

River Paradise Mobile Estates members are also seeking donations for food and raffle prizes from area merchants. Tractor Supply Company and CVS Pharmacy are just two merchants that have already made donations.

If you would like to donate toward their efforts, contact Neighborhood Watch Captain Allison Clark at 209-848-2161 or River Paradise Mobile Estates Community Manager Debbie Heinz at 209-847-8647.

Additional information regarding the Night Out plans and event locations will be posted in future editions of The Leader.
