Police caught a wanted thief who'd attempted to run from Raley's with a 12 pack of Bud Light but was thwarted by the manager before he could pedal away with his stolen suds, Thursday, Nov. 17.

According to police reports, Rommel Barrido, 55, of Oakdale was climbing onto his bike when the store manager approached him regarding the beer. Barrido threw down the beer and pedaled away quickly. The store manager recovered the beer but was unable to stop Barrido. However, an officer happened to be in Raley's at the time and managed to alert an officer in the area to be on the look-out for Barrido.

Another officer caught up with Barrido on Johnson Avenue and quickly took him into custody. Barrido, who was charged with petty theft with a prior, seemed to believe that because he dropped the beer and took off, he wouldn't be charged. He was wrong and he was booked into the county jail.
