Hutton’s Hamlet Summer Youth Theater has limited slots open for four summer plays. The last opportunity to register is fast approaching. The program features performances at the theater following two weeks of intensive rehearsals. A variety of ages needed and all levels of acting experience welcome. Oakdale Rescue Mission is putting on its fourth annual Burgerfest Fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, May 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., offered at Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale. Meals are served throughout the evening and there will also be raffle drawings every 30 minutes, a silent auction, entertainment and more. Tickets are $20 for adults, children under 12 eat for free. Menu includes a BBQ hamburger dinner, with hot dogs for the kids and kids at heart, chips, a wide variety of salads, drinks and an extensive dessert bar. Plan ahead for a special “Read To A Dog” Event coming to the Oakdale Library on Tuesday, May 14, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This unique program gives children a relaxed non-judgmental atmosphere to practice reading aloud. Drop by the Library and read to a certified therapy dog. No sign-ups are necessary in this program designed for independent readers up to age 12. Books are provided or the child can bring their favorite. Also, children ages 5 to 8, will want to join in the ongoing “Book Worms Kids Book Club.” On Thursday, May 23 at 3 p.m., the special book club will meet, where children will listen to a story, discuss and share, and then do a fun related craft or activity. No need to check out the book ahead of time, just come in and enjoy book fun especially for this age level.
An Armed Forces Day Concert is set for Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at Ripon Christian High School Performing Arts Center, 435 Maple Ave., Ripon. Voices for the King, a male chorus, will perform inspirational and patriotic music in recognition of both national armed service members, local law enforcement and fire department members along with a color guard presentation. This concert is free.

Golden Agers weekly dances are open to those 50 and older from throughout the Central Valley and are now hosted at St. Frances of Rome Church, 2827 Topeka St., Riverbank. First time guests are admitted free. The annual membership fee is $12 and each Wednesday members pay $5 and non-members can enjoy a few hours of music and dancing for $6.
