Performers Needed

YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company is seeking students in grades 7-12, to be actors, singers, dancers, and crew members for the production of “Footloose,” to be performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts, July 21 through 30. No experience or preparation is necessary and all audition materials will be provided. A local audition is scheduled for Thursday, March 30 at 6 p.m., at the Oakdale High School Theatre, Oakdale.

 

Relay For Life Brunch

The Relay For Life of Oakdale/Riverbank will host a Survivor/Caregiver Brunch on Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. at the River Church, 1351 E. G St., Oakdale. The public is also invited to attend the Luminaria Ceremony, which will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at the Relay event itself, being hosted at Oakdale High School. To honor the community’s cancer survivors and to remember those lost to the disease, survivors will circle the track rimmed with glowing luminaria while the photos of survivors and those lost to the disease are displayed. Photos to be included in the luminaria video can be sent to luminaria2017@gmail.com. Luminaria can be dedicated by visiting www.relayforlife.org/oakdaleca and click “Luminaria.”

 

Pancake Breakfast Slated

St. Patrick’s Altar Society’s annual Pancake Breakfast has been scheduled for Sunday, April 9 from 7 a.m. to noon.

Breakfast will be served at St. Patrick’s Social Hall on Highway 120, just west of Escalon. Price is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 3 to 10; and under 3 eat for free. Proceeds go directly to purchasing flowers, church decorations for Easter and Christmas seasons and communion bread for the church.

 

Writers Group

The Sonora Writers Group will host a series of Writers Workshops beginning April 15 at the Tuolumne County Library in Sonora. The first of the two part series, “Successful Self Marketing” will be led by local author Sandy Lee. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 15. The public is invited, there is no fee and refreshments will be served. It is recommended to call for reservations, Sonora Writers Group 209-743-8097.

 

Toastmasters Club

Join in each week with the local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 5. Peddlers Faire

The Knights Ferry Museum in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers presents the 27th Annual Gold Country Peddlers Faire. The event will be hosted on Sunday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event host vendors offering antiques, handmade crafts and art. Mansion Tea

A special Mother’s Day Tea will be presented at the McHenry Mansion in Modesto on Saturday, May 13. The Tea Luncheons have been a tradition for many local families and benefit the Mansion Foundation in maintaining this historical location. McHenry Mansion is at 906 15th St., Modesto and two seatings are planned for the May 13 event. The first will be at 11 a.m.; the second at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person; call for reservations at (209) 522-1739 by May 5.

 

Age With Movement

The Healthy Aging Association will host “Age With Movement,” on Friday, May 5. This free event celebrates Older Americans Month. The free festivities include vendor booths, balance and fitness testing, blood pressure check and fun ways to get moving. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Booths are open from 8 a.m. to noon.
