It’s almost springtime and a local 4-H club is offering a good way to commemorate the season by offering to take pictures of kids and bunnies.
River Oaks 4-H Club is holding its annual Spring Portrait fundraiser where children or adults can be photographed with live rabbits from March 5 through 7 at the Oakdale Cheese Factory, 10040 Highway 120, Oakdale. The club’s Photography and Rabbit project groups are putting on the event.
The bunnies are owned by members of the club’s Rabbit project group; therefore, they are used to children. The club’s rabbit project leaders are Rebecca Stacy and Angelique Clinkenbeard.
The Photography project group will be assisting the Photography leader Sandi Black in taking the photos and in doing the editing, while rabbit project members will be assisting in the proper handling of the rabbits.
“I got the idea when I spotted an Easter ad with children in their Sunday best playing with bunnies,” Black said. “The rabbit leaders and I have been talking about it for a year now and decided to try it out. So far the response has been wonderful.”
She reported that they already have a number of appointments scheduled, but there are still many more available. Black said that they are glad to be able to use the beautiful grounds at Oakdale Cheese Factory for this fundraiser and that the photo event will proceed rain or shine, as canopies will be used in case of rain.
“We will have several rabbits to choose from for the photos,” Black said. “We will also take photos without the rabbits if someone wishes.”
The proceeds raised will be used for county fair expenses and to purchase necessities for the club’s rabbit project group.
“The rabbit project needs a few items, such as a scale and a grooming table low enough for the younger members,” Black added.
The first sheet of photos is $10, with each additional sheet at $3. Only cash will be accepted. A sheet of photos consists of either one 8x10; two 5x7s; eight wallet-size; or, four 4x6s. The pictures will be available for pick-up the week before Easter.
To make an appointment for a photo sitting, call 847-4849. Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 will be by appointment only. Appointments and “walk-ins” are welcome on Sunday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
