The ASTRO (Animal Shelter To Riverbank & Oakdale) Foundation has an abundance of over 100 kittens and cats that are currently available for adoption. The majority were rescued from the City of Oakdale Animal Shelter which is just too small to handle the number of felines that it receives. With the hard work of the ASTRO Foundation’s volunteers, there is hope for these kitties.

For the month of October, ASTRO is offering a feline adoption special of only $35 adoption fee for most kittens. Adopters will also receive a $20 Petco gift card. Prior to adoption all kittens are spayed or neutered, microchipped and have received their first two kitten vaccines.

The long term goal of ASTRO Foundation is to build a no-kill shelter for the community that will house both cats and dogs. The animals they rescue currently live in foster homes. ASTRO has found forever homes for 52 dogs and puppies and 233 cats and kittens since the first of January this year. Local students have played an important role in helping make these adoptions happen by volunteering to foster pets and work adoption events. However, they still have several felines in their inventory.

To view adoptable kitties, visit the ASTRO Adoption Bus at Petco in Riverbank on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the first three weekends of October. Adoptable pets are also featured at astrofoundation.org.

“While it’s true we can’t save them all, we can save quite a few,” stated Jaydeen Vicente, ASTRO Foundation President. “If everyone helped in some small way, whether that be adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating, the homeless pet problem would be greatly reduced. With so many things in this crazy world out of our control, it’s nice to know there’s still an area where we can all have an impact, helping homeless animals.”
