Oakdale Police announced that they arrested Nichole Todd-Smith, 31, in connection with the death of her 44-day-old daughter from December 11.

After the death, an autopsy was performed and toxicology results from January showed the infant had a high level of methamphetamine in its system. On Feb. 15 an arrest warrant was issued by Stanislaus Superior Court for Todd-Smith charging felony child endangerment with a $1 million bail.

Oakdale Police Sergeant Joe Johnson said Oakdale Police contacted Todd-Smith on Feb. 18 around 9:30 p.m. at the Obsidian Drive address where the incident had occurred. She was arrested without incident.

Police originally believed Todd-Smith moved from the residence and did not state how they learned she had returned.

Johnson added that Todd-Smith immediately requested legal representation and no further interview of her could be conducted.

Todd-Smith is expected to make a court appearance on Monday, Feb. 25.
