At the Municipal Advisory Council meeting last Thursday Supervisor Bill O’Brien discussed the annexation of 7000 acres of almonds in the Knights Ferry area. Even though the Oakdale Irrigation District said the acreage could be added to the district, the Supervisors want to protect the ground water. In some places where large agriculture wells have been drilled, the local wells have dried up. The Supervisors do not want this to happen. Also discussed was the dust that the land leveling has caused. Big plumes of dust can be seen on Orange Blossom Road. Your reporter has to wipe down the draining board every morning to get rid of the grit. Supervisor O’Brien also talked about the early release of prisoners, AB109. The county gets 14 million dollars for accepting the early release prisoners. They are planning a jail expansion by 2016. The California Highway Patrolman Chuck said it has been quiet but was told that school starts soon and the drivers don’t stop at the stop signs. He will get on that. At the next meeting Tri-Dam will talk on the emergency plan for Knights Ferry in case of dam failure. The council wants input on how the town can deal with the influx of people, cars and bicycles in the summer.

Linda and Ken Morris took granddaughter Rhiannon to the Oakland Zoo and then took Bart to the Exploratorium. On another day they took Rhiannon and a friend to the Winchester Mystery House and the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. They all enjoyed the outings and the beautiful weather but NOT the traffic.
