The Election filing period has ended and Knights Ferry School District has five candidates running for three board seats, incumbents Robert Brunker and Kym Cassaretto along with Sean McCarthy, Shavon Haskell and Diane Noon. The Municipal Advisory council has three openings with two candidates running unopposed for the two full term seats, Dolly Haskell and Brendt Noon. Cliff Howse is appointed for the short-term seat. For the Knights Ferry Community Service District two are running unopposed for three seats, Erich Ulrich and Brendt Noon, Jr.

Condolences go out to Ken Raven on the death of his mom, Mabel, at 104 years of age.

Kaeli Sweet had surgery to remove the needle in her foot and is doing fine.

Mazie Brown had a 3-foot rattlesnake in her back yard. She thought we said they were only on the other side of the river. It was dispatched.

Pastor Henry Raven from Sierra Foothill Community Church gave a nice service for Fred Dolling’s mother’s funeral.

Ellen Wearin was the recipient of the “Birthday Song” and a cake at the 50’s Roadhouse.

Maureen McKibban enjoyed visiting with her family last week. They rented a house for the gathering in Sonoma, with a pool for the children. Attending besides Maureen were her daughter, Kate, son-in-law Grahme, granddaughter Emma from Connecticut, and son Ross and grandsons Cole and Luke from Northern California. The cousins had fun together.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday Christen Down from the County Planning Department told of the Historical Site District change in zoning. California Highway Patrolman Chuck Leon said they would be watching the town’s stop signs. He also talked about the new patrol cars, Ford Explorers. U.S. Army Corp representatives Heather Wright and Dwayne Johnson updated the MAC on the covered bridge’s National Historic plaque, coming soon. Darrin McDaniel from Congressman Jeff Denham’s office read a letter in support of our Post Office. Ron Berry and Tim Townsend from Tri-Dam, required to notify and inform those below dams, spoke on the procedure in case the dam fails. Knights Ferry is in a High Hazard Dam classification. All dams are now under Homeland Security. Eric Ulrich, representative from the Water Board (CSD) told of the ruling that Knights Ferry has water rights forever.
