The Knights Ferry Garden Club met at the Oak Grove Cemetery’s flagpole last Wednesday to clean around it. They then went to Maureen McKibban’s home for lunch on her patio and their May meeting. The June meeting will be a luncheon in Modesto.

Michel Griesner shot a rattlesnake by her home but first she had to get the dog out of the way!

Tomorrow is the Knights Ferry School’s Bovine Bingo, Talent Show and Dinner starting at 5 p.m.

The end of the year activities are going on at KFS. Graduation will be May 30 at 7 p.m. at the front of the school, overlooking the river valley.

All of the McCarthy relatives gathered at the home of Sean and Kim for a Mother’s Day bar-b-que. There was quite a group from near and far. They enjoyed the backyard river setting and Sean’s grilling!

There was a lot on the agenda at the Knights Ferry School Board meeting last Thursday. Sue Rich from the Stanislaus County Office of Education was the speaker. She explained the State’s API scores (Academic Performance Index). Knights Ferry has always been above 800 but has slid the past few years. Sue explained how to look at the scores. She stated it is inappropriate to compare the API’s across the cycles. New indicators and test weights change from one cycle to the next. A big factor is the demographics of the students. Knights Ferry has seen an increase in Hispanics and lower social economic status families plus a decrease in the number of students in school. In closed session the trustees and the employees met for collective bargaining. Since they could not reach an agreement, the Board imposed their last best offer, 2 furlough days this year and a 2 ¾ reduction in pay for May and June and next year. Teachers could still get their step and column raise if earned. Superintendent Cheryl Griffiths also took the reduction in pay. Teachers have yet to answer the Board.

Carol Davis had all six of her grandchildren at her home for Mother’s Day. The last time they were all together was Thanksgiving. Bruce, Kim, Denise and Roger brought all the grandkids and they enjoyed games and dinner.

Tracy Griesner was given a surprise 50th birthday party by Aunt Gayle Taylor and mom Michel at Gail’s home.
