Knights Ferry News for March 13, 2013

The Sandhill Cranes are flying north in impressive numbers. Spring is coming! Also the town is carpeted in violets, remnants of the open water system that provided the town with water. The reservoir was where the upper blacktop area is at the school. It was open and violet seeds spread through town.

Alice Sharp was the recipient of the “Birthday Song” at the breakfast on the 3rd. She is 92 years old. She once lived in the Ferry and her children went to Knights Ferry School.

Olive Kupiec was up from Las Vegas visiting her mother, Mary Morris and other family members. She enjoyed dinner at the 50’s Roadhouse.

Knights Ferry School was jumping, literally, when a group came from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and held a jump rope assembly. They twirled the ropes and jumped with all body parts that you couldn’t believe!

Maureen McKibban has returned from a week’s visit in Greenwich, Connecticut with daughter Kate, her husband Grahme, and granddaughter Emma (the real reason for going). Emma has turned three and Maureen enjoyed making cookies with her. Emma liked to roll out the dough and put the sprinkles on. Maureen went to Emma’s ballet class (all 3 year olds) and enjoyed the youngsters. They went antique shopping just to look around and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts to see the Matisse Display. She had a great time despite the cold, windy weather.

At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting the desserts were wonderful! The plans for the Spaghetti Dinner on March 23rd are moving right along. They need more raffle prizes. Call Kim at 847-7122. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 10 and under. They can be purchased from any club member or at the door. Garden Club will decorate the tables on the 22nd.

The school children have been busily working on their class project to raffle off at the Parent Teacher Silent/Live Auction and Dinner on March 16th at the clubhouse. The doors will open at 5:30. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.

The Civil War re-enactment is March 23rd and 24th. This is always an interesting event. You can see the camps and see what it was like during the war. Battles are on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
