Condolences go out to Susan Glidewell and Heather Voortman and their families on the death of Susan’s mother and Heather’s grandmother Janice Wine Oliver of Modesto. Among Janice’s 23 great grandchildren are Dakota, Tristan and Liam Voortman.

The Knights Ferry Garden Club held their end of the 2011-2012 year meeting in Modesto at Tasty Tai. The club officers will stay the same for the next year.

The meeting of the History and Museum Associates was a short one due to summer activities. The re-print of the book “History of Stanislaus County” by the McHenry Museum has sold out!

Jordan and Alec Ray have gotten interested in stamp collecting and want to share their hobby with others. They are forming a stamp club and will hold their first meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 23 in the Knights Ferry Lending Library, in Miller’s Hall behind the Ice Cream Parlor. It is open to all ages.

The last Knights Ferry School board was a long meeting. The budget was finally approved but before the meeting the phone system collapsed and the hot water heater blew! Thankfully there are funds in the deferred maintenance account to cover this.

This warm weather has brought out the tomato worms. Your reporter goes out in the early morning to look for the small green pearly eggs of the Sphinx moth. The adult feeds on flowers and hovers at dusk like a hummingbird. The young we all know as the tomato horn worm. Pick and stomp is the recommended way to get rid of the worm. I prefer to get the eggs before they hatch. It takes some looking but when you find one you now know what to look for.

Speaking of insects, the leafhoppers are back and covering the windows in the evening. Don’t open the door or they are inside!
