There have been many river rescues this week (one going on as your reporter types), even rescuing a dog. People are heedless of the river flow and how flimsy rafts and inner tubes can be popped by the tree branches that are now in the river. The rafting companies send a guide with each of their rafts, and their rafts are very strong. Everyone should have life vests on!

Don and Gayle Diltz have returned from a two-week road trip. They drove to Las Vegas and spent two days there, then drove across Arizona and turned up toward Utah.  At Cedar Breaks National Monument they were amazed at the wildflower display. They spent four days at Brianhead and then took in Bryce Canyon. On the way to their daughter’s home in Eden, Utah, they saw some petroglyphs. Don and Gayle had Monsoon rains on two days of their trip. They enjoyed visiting with their daughter and her husband.

The Children’s Talent Show was an awesome event. The deck at the River’s Edge had a stage at one end with lights and microphone. Mistress of Ceremony was Chaunte Cardy. Performers and their talent were: Rustin Tome-Michael Jackson impersonation, Brandi Cardy-dance, Alandra, Destiny, Lizebeth and Lizth Machado-a play, Christina Cooper-lip sync, Renee Flemmings-dance, Charly McKinsey (4 years) keyboard, Aubrey Harris-air guitar, Kaeli Sweet-hula hoop, Dakota and Tristan Voortman-poem “Brother for Sale,” Logan Martinelli-lip sync, Heaven Tucker-dance. All the children waved flags and sang, “Glad to be an American” for the finale. Ben and Linda Cassinetto received a certificate of appreciation for providing the venue and the participants received a goodie bag. The raffle brought in $400 for Knights Ferry School. Thanks to Beth, Lori, Tracy and Lisa for their help.

They celebrated Pat’s birthday at the River’s Edge, the first time in 40 years that she had been in the restaurant. The Kelly family ran it over 40 years ago. They went rafting and visited Yosemite and took in the Giants, Ports, and Nuts baseball games.
