There was a large turnout for the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting and dinner last Thursday. Speakers were Sharon Arpoka, retired Librarian from Oakdale and Brian Sontag, present Librarian of the Oakdale Branch of the Stanislaus County Library. They told the history of county libraries, starting in 1909. In 1912 the McHenry Library opened in April. The libraries are celebrating their100 year birthday this month. They told of the financing of public libraries, and how the ballot measure to continue the 1/8 of a cent sales tax needs to be reapproved (Measure T). They also showed how many library services could be done on the computer and smart phone. Also speaking was Cheryl Griffiths Knights Ferry School Principal/Superintendent. She spoke on the finances of the school and passed out graphs showing the trends of less money, higher Special Education costs ($108,000 a year for KFS), and the spending pattern for past and projected spending for the future. The public could not ask many questions because four School Board members were present (a quorum) and the Brown Act would come into play.

Easter Sunday Sunrise service was attended by many faithful. The crowd gathered around the cross on Frymire Hill and Pastor Tanis led the service. The sun rose over Rushing Mountain and lit up the sky. Afterwards the Frymire’s graciously opened their home for coffee and goodies.
