Knights Ferry lost a neighbor, friend and extremely sharp person when Bill Frias died October 12th. His financial genius helped the Oakdale Rural Fire Department, Knights Ferry School District, Knights Ferry Odd Fellows, OID, and the Knights Ferry Community Church and Knights Ferry Community Club. A celebration of life will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Living Hope Christian Fellowship in Oakdale, graveside services following at Burwood Cemetery and then a luncheon at the Knights Ferry Community Club. Bill is dancing with Evelyn as I type!

Gather your bags of candy and get ready for the annual parade down Main Street of the costumed Knights Ferry students on October 30th at noon. Bring your preschoolers too. It is a fun time and we get to see all the costumes and the children do not need to go out at night.

Also on October 30th it is family movie night at the clubhouse. Come in costume and bring blankets, lawn chairs, etc. The movie will be “Hotel Transylvania.” Popcorn and water will be available for purchase.

The Knights Ferry School Board met last Thursday and listened to Tom Changnon, Superintendent, Stanislaus County Office of Education, speak on Destination Graduation, a countywide initiative to increase graduation rates. This is not a high school problem; it starts at a younger age. He stressed the need to read to babies on up through high school! Also on the agenda were the two candidates for the appointed Board position, Donna Verdegaal and Andrea Gonzalez. The Board questioned each person and will decide who gets the position soon.
