Knights Ferry News 3-2-22
Nastasia Sweet

Last Saturday, Knights Ferry was a popular destination site! The Modesto Model-A Club and a Walking Group from San Francisco enjoyed our local scenery and historical buildings. Museum docents, Tracy Griesner and Liam Voortman opened the Knights Ferry Museum for the Model-A Club and they enjoyed an ice cream at the Creamery. The Walking Group from San Francisco enjoyed learning of the Hook and Ladder history between San Francisco and Knights Ferry.

The first local Knights Ferry newspaper was the “Hill Top Bee” issued in 1944 and 1945. The reporters gathered news from the citizens and from the centrally located Knights Ferry Store. One of the notable reports included a local boy who was driven to Jamestown to pay his $25 fine for spearing salmon at Two Mile Bar. Many of the addresses were printed to write to local boys serving in the armed forces during WWII and there were ladies who rolled bandages at the Community Club every week. Students bought savings stamps at school and then would use them to purchase a $25 Savings Bond.
