The time has come for our town to say good-bye to Barbara and Lynn Burroughs as they move to Texas to be near Rhett and his family. They have lived in Knights Ferry for more than 30 years. Barbara has substitute taught at the school for years including in my class and both of my children. Kim McCarthy had the kids make signs and brought cookies to say good-bye and thank you for all the years of substitute teaching! For the rest of us, there will be a Farewell party for the Burroughs at the Community Club on Sunday, October 15 at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to send them off in true small-town fashion, a potluck! BYOB and a dish to share.

The cemetery is all spruced up thanks to the crew of volunteers who “jazzed up” the cemetery over the weekend. The Muniain family organized a hot dog lunch and jazz music for the day. The goal of the day was to clean up the sites by raking leaves, pulling weeds, pruning trees and the group managed to fill a large dumpster! It was a fantastic day and many town members cannot wait to do it again.

Lee and Mary Sue Shearer aka the rattlesnake killers, have now caught and killed three rattlesnakes with nothing more than a shovel. The largest snake was 44 inches long and one was a baby. I hope the snakes understand that they will lose their head if they head toward the Shearer’s house!
