Did everyone survive the hot weather? The vegetation took a beating.

At the MAC meeting, held in the Odd Fellows Hall because their air conditioning was better, Ruben Imperial from Stanislaus County told that the county is filling positions that had been left open. The County is using state funding for the new Jail Facility that is in the last stage of building. Brendt Noon attended a Hazard Mitigation workshop. He talked with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire about fire hazards in the Ferry and they said Cal Fire takes care of that so Brendt will look into talking to them on the hazards in our area.

Speaking of fire – there was a big burn off Sonora and Schell Road the other day. The flames raced through the dry grass as the firemen and air support rushed to save homes. It burned about 40 acres. Was started by a lawn mower or pressure washer depending on who tells the story.

Eleven-year-old-Payton Wearin, grandson of Bill and Ellen, son of Matt and Jamie, took first place in the California Individual Shoot at the Kingsburg Gun Club in 100+ temperatures last week. This week Caleb Bairos, son of Marci and Al, grandson of Kathy Mangante, was at the Kingsburg Club for a trapshooting tournament and the dike broke on the Kings River and flooded the whole place. Event canceled!

There was a river rescue Saturday. The Voortman family pulled up to their home and saw Andrew Basmajian and Mary Turner running to the river. David Voortman grabbed his gear and jumped in to help a lady out. Kathleen Feichter looked for another person. Got everyone out before the firemen arrived. Good job townfolk!

Gordon and Michel Griesner have dispatched their first rattlesnake of the season.

The Knights Ferry Garden Club held their June luncheon at the River’s Edge and invited past members to come and enjoy hearing about what is happening with the club. Past members that attended were Jean Dyer, Sharon Page, Kathy Mangante, Michel Griesner and Sharon Carpenter.
