Once again, PG&E initiated their Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program. Knights Ferry was put on the list for potential power shut off due to high wind forecasts over the weekend. A few weeks ago, locals were left without power but while many PG&E customers went several days without power, Knights Ferry was really only impacted for a few hours. This time, the town was told it would be without power starting sometime on Saturday and thankfully, as of Sunday, the town still had power. PG&E also established a Community Resource Center (CRC) at the Odd Fellows Stanislaus Lodge #170 with resources such as restrooms, bottled water, and electronic-device charging stations for their local customers who would be affected by the power outage.

The Knights Ferry Jr High students are launching a shoe collection drive. The gently used or new shoes they collect will help them raise money for their upcoming trip to the Washington, DC, reduce what goes into landfills, and support micro-enterprises in developing nations. A company called Funds2Orgs will purchase all the donated goods from the Jr High. If you would like to help, please bring your gently used or new shoes to Knights Ferry School or to the Odd Fellows lodge between November 21, 2019 and January 21, 2020. There will be red collection cans at these locations. If you have questions about this program, please contact Laura Watson at 209-875-1180. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity to help a lot of people!

The Knights Ferry Jr. High students picked and canned pears and Charilyn Damigo taught the science and historical background of canning. They were able to pick pears from a local back yard and the Knights Ferry Church let the students use their multipurpose room to can.
