The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area. Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 11 through Monday, Aug. 17. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 16

3:54 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to Jacob Myers Park for an EMS incident involving a patient who had fallen down an embankment towards the Stanislaus River. Engine 27 was requested to assist, Battalion 5 attached to the incident. Engine 26 arrived on scene, made patient contact then requested additional equipment and manpower from Engine 27. Battalion 5 arrived, established command; soon after crews located the patient, who was approximately a half-mile down river from the command post, one of the ambulance crew members started showing signs of heat exhaustion. The ambulance crew member was assisted back to the command post, a second ambulance was requested to the scene; Battalion 2 attached to the incident to assist with the patient extrication operation. Engine 26 and 27 crews extricated the primary patient to the opposite side of the river (south side), who had moderate injuries from landing incorrectly into the shallow river after allegedly swinging on a rope swing; the second ambulance was diverted to the south side to assume patient care of the primary patient. Battalion 5 provided patient care to the ambulance medic at the command post, providing hydration and a cool place to rehab.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 15

6:55 a.m. – Modesto, Ceres and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire units responded to a commercial structure fire in the 800 block of South 7th Street in Modesto. Crews arrived on scene to find a single-story commercial structure with heavy smoke coming from the interior; a second then third alarm was requested, bringing additional resources to the scene. Crews initially attacked the fire from the exterior, moving inside once the fire was knocked down. No injuries have been reported; the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit was on scene.

4:52 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire units responded to the 400 block of Coralwood Road, in Modesto for a report of a house on fire. Crews arrived on scene to find an outside fire next to a single-story residence that had been partially extinguished by residents. Crews checked for extension into the structure then cleared.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 14

3:19 a.m. – Modesto Fire Department, Ceres Fire Department, and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire burning between Zeff Road and the Tuolumne River in Modesto. The fire was just over an acre in size.

7:32 a.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus units responded to reports of a vehicle accident with a possible pin-in in the 1900 block of South Stearns in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene to find a solo vehicle that struck a utility pole and fencing. The driver had self-extricated and was found to have minor injuries. Oak Valley Ambulance arrived and assessed the driver. PG&E responded to secure the power as the high voltage lines were still live on the pole. The driver escaped impalement by the fence boards by mere inches. Stanislaus County Public Works assisted with providing barricades for Stearns Road for safety. CHP was also on scene investigating.

11:51 a.m. – Modesto crews responded to reports of a motorcycle accident following a police pursuit at Valley Home Road at River Road in Oakdale. Crews attended to the motorcycle rider who sustained major injuries. Oakdale Police and CHP were investigating.

2:24 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus units responded to Oakdale Waterford Highway and Milnes Road for reports of a vegetation fire. A small roadside grass fire was quickly extinguished.

3:43 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus units responded to Highway 108 at Langworth Road in Oakdale for reports of a motorcycle vs. a car. Crews arrived on scene to find one adult and one juvenile patient with injuries. Both were on the motorcycle. The juvenile patient was flown to a pediatric hospital. CHP was investigating.

5:20 p.m. – Modesto units responded to reports of a vehicle accident with a possible pin-in at Highway 108 and Wamble Road in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene with Oak Valley Ambulance and Stanislaus Sheriff and found two patients with minor injuries. CHP investigating.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 12

8:15 p.m. – Engine 30 and Water Rescue 28 assisted a stranded boater at Woodward Reservoir.

 

TUESDAY, AUG. 11

No times listed

Annual ladder service testing was completed.

Station 27 continued to clean and inventory equipment utilized on the Kerr vegetation fire.

Grass 27 performed mop-up on the Kerr vegetation fire in Oakdale.
