School starts in Oakdale on Wednesday, Aug. 10. To get the students processed with their books, ID cards, school pictures, and oriented to campus, Oakdale High School and Oakdale Junior High School are each hosting “Round Ups” over the course of two days on Aug. 3 and 4.
At OHS, the Leadership students and Link Crew members will pitch in to help with the Round Up days. The Leadership team will be selling PE Clothes, Spirit Items, and helping with textbook check out both days. For Freshman Orientation Day on Aug. 3, the Link Crew, which is made up of OHS juniors and seniors and contains some Leadership students, will conduct the orientation.
OHS Leadership advisor Guy Fowler reported that there will be two presenters from Tulare who will come in to conduct the orientation day’s activities. Dave Schlick and Marshall Webb are from Tulare Union High School and have been running Link Crew trainings for over 10 years, Fowler added.
“The Link Crew (members) have been matched up with incoming freshmen to provide a Big Brother/Big Sister concept to these freshmen,” Fowler said. “Our goal is to give the freshmen someone they can go to for assistance for school work, help finding classrooms, getting them involved in school activities and sports, etc. The Link Crew has already contacted (their freshman buddies) over the summer and is looking forward to having a great day of confidence building on the orientation day.”
At OJHS on Wednesday, Aug. 3, seventh graders will be at the school from 8 a.m.  to 11 a.m. scheduled in waves based on their last name. Eighth graders will be at the school from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., also scheduled by last name.
On Thursday, Aug. 4 the junior high will host a Welcome BBQ Luncheon for the incoming seventh graders from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m.
Meanwhile, crews at the school sites throughout the Oakdale Joint Unified School District are finishing up summer work projects, getting the facilities in shape for the return of students and staff.
