After several months of review and data collection by an outside source, findings and recommendations are back concerning the Oakdale Joint Unified School District, OJUSD, Boundary Study.

A Boundary Study Public Forum will be hosted on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at Magnolia Auditorium to go over the findings.

Approval of pursuing the study was voted and passed by the OJUSD Board during the 2014-2015 school year. Superintendent of Schools Marc Malone proposed the necessity of the study to the board, noting the continued growth on the west end of town and its effect on Fair Oaks Elementary School enrollment.

A flier announcing the Forum was sent home with all elementary age students last week stating:

“There will be a public forum to present the results of the OJUSD Boundary Study and proposed options for new elementary school boundaries which will be presented to the OJUSD Board of Trustees for approval at their meeting on March 14, 2016. The Boundary Changes will only affect incoming Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten and newly enrolled K-6 students beginning with the 2016-17 school year. Students already enrolled with OJUSD will have the option of staying with their current home school.

“The overall goal of the Boundary Study is to reduce overcrowding at Fair Oaks Elementary School, while developing a better demographic balance throughout the District’s four elementary schools.

“After an initial presentation of the proposed options, the Magnolia Computer Lab, Room 11, will be open for parents to complete a brief online survey and provide their input. The Boundary Study repost and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) are available for review on the district’s website: www.oakdale.k12.ca.us.”

The next OJUSD Board meeting will be hosted on Monday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be hosted at the Oakdale Joint Unified Tech Center, 331 Hinkley Ave., Oakdale. As is customary with all OJUSD Board meetings, public comment is allowed; however, no action will be taken on matters presented, which are not scheduled on the meeting agenda.
