Dance Performance On Stage At MJC

A concert of modern and contemporary dance later this month will feature the MJC Off~Balance Dance Company, performing several shows.

Modesto Junior College Dance Department presents Off~Balance in Performance – “Moving Through Light and Dark” – Wednesday through Friday, Feb. 20, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. There is no Saturday performance.

The concert of modern and contemporary dance features the MJC Off~Balance Dance Company, an eclectic ensemble of young and mature artists who perform with physicality, integrity and grace in “Moving Through Light and Dark.”

Tickets for performances are $11 for general admission and $9 for seniors and students of all ages. Tickets are available in advance at the MJC Auditorium Box Office on East Campus, open Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 5 p.m., or by calling (209) 575-6776 during these hours. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.mjc.tix.com and at the door beginning 90 minutes prior to each performance.

“Off~Balance incorporates a cast of 25 dancers who have not only invested hours of hard work into each dance, but have pushed themselves to new heights,” said Kim T. Davis, MJC professor of dance. “The commitment and dedication is inspiring to witness and we invite you to get a glimpse of these wonderful dancers and creative works of art.”

The performance is choreographed by MJC instructors Kim T. Davis, Lori Bryhni and Maggie Sniffen; Off~Balance resident choreographer Rebbecca Meyers; MJC students Tabitha Stewart and Benjamin Gallegos, and guest choreographers David Arce, artistic director of the Juline Regional Youth Ballet Company and Blair Pope, MJC alumnus and graduate of California State University, Long Beach.
