Giving back to the community is what Jaylene Ponce, owner of Jaylene’s Baking, is proudly known for. With all that is going on in the world today in regards to a focus on police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, Ponce knew showing her gratitude toward local police officers and firefighters was exactly what she wanted to do. The local baker notes that some 750 cookies have been delivered to local stations and even some Bay area stations over the past few weeks.
Ponce’s decorative cookies have become a total hit in the community. Fifteen police departments have received dozens of cookies courtesy of Jaylene’s Baking and she plans to donate to 11 more stations, serving up around 500 cookies this week around California. Firefighters will also be receiving the generous cookie donations very soon.
“I just wanted the police officers to know that someone is thinking of them during this time,” said Ponce. “Some stations were shocked and emotional when we sent cookies because they didn’t realize that people all the way from Oakdale were even thinking about them.”
Ponce is very involved in the community and believes in giving back to others. In March, Ponce donated cookies to local businesses during the uncertainty that they faced. Jaylene’s Baking also just hosted a fundraiser for Jon Lutz, a local, battling cancer. People were able to donate $20 and receive a mystery box of cookies, while all donation money went to the Lutz family. Ponce received double her donation goal and plans to match it. She has also donated her cookies to the K-9 dinners as well.
