Elizabeth “Liz” Vo and her husband, Cach Vo, are bringing Fabulous Nails into the green era by transforming the 7-year-old local business into one that uses natural botanical blends imported from Oregon and Canada that are paraban-free for their facials.
Liz Vo, a licensed cosmetologist and Reiki master with an emphasis on skincare and waxing, comes to the salon with an impressive pedigree as her background includes work with the John Roberts Hair Studio in Ohio, which remains one of the top 20 salons in the country by industry standards. Vo spent nine years with John Roberts, where she spent six of those years as the lead esthetician, garnering a nod for Best Brazilian Wax for her signature style and professionalism. From fashion shows to photo shoots, Vo has zipped along the fast track with top stylists and when she moved to California she segued into work with Aveda, Estee Lauder’s high-end skincare line, where she traveled extensively as the line’s territory manager from South Sacramento to Visalia.
But as exciting as the jet-set lifestyle was, Vo, who is pregnant with her third child, discovered she was ready to slow things down a bit. That’s when husband, Cach, invited her to come work with him at Fabulous Nails.
“I really wanted to spend more time with the kids,” Liz Vo stated. “I miss the glitz but I’m looking forward to the simpler life.”
When people started asking for facials at the salon, she realized she could fulfill that need but she decided she wanted to do things a bit differently.
“I wanted to do something that stands out so I started playing with organic materials. I wanted to take a natural approach to skincare. I didn’t want to carry a bunch of chemical products,” Liz said.
When Liz approached her husband with the idea, he was immediately on board.
“We don’t want to be flushing chemicals down the drain,” Cach Vo said. “We’re trying to save the planet.”
Liz found two companies with products she approved, adding that the masks come from Norway.
“You see the results without the inflammation and the swelling that you can get from a chemical product,” Liz said. “It’s better for your skin and for the environment.”
Although there’s really no way to go green with the acrylic used for nails, Liz and Cach both say that the pedicures they offer at Fabulous Nails are unlike anything a client can get elsewhere.
“People are going to notice the quality of the deluxe pedicure,” Liz said. “We have pipeless jets in all eight pedicure stations, which offers less chance for bacteria.”
The husband and wife duo are enjoying working together and Liz is enjoying the face time with clients.
“I really like the personal connection that I missed when I was working with Aveda and I’m excited to pamper people again,” Liz said.
Liz said plans are in the works to offer hot stone massage and paraffin wax as part of the salon’s repertoire.
Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are appreciated.
