A grand opening celebration is scheduled in Angels Camp on Saturday, Feb. 1 for a new shop, Horse Feathers Vintage, with the event running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Perhaps it was serendipity that brought Dena McAfee and Caroline Yu together at the Copperopolis Flea Market previously, where the two had vendor booths next to each other.

“I was there as the first vendor as my husband and I organized the event and, well, Caroline arrived last,” Dena said with a laugh. “The only space left was next to mine and that’s what eventually brought us together.”

The two soon realized they carried similar themes of vintage merchandise and became good friends after learning they both liked to shop at similar venues to gather home and garden decor to sell at local vintage shows. Coincidentally, Caroline and Dena both built careers in marketing communications for major Bay Area tech companies. They eventually settled in Copperopolis where they met last May.

Eventually, the two decided to combine efforts and open a shop together. In December, they signed a lease for their new vintage shop in downtown Angels Camp – Horse Feathers Vintage – and are looking forward to Grand Opening on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The theme is vintage and vintage-inspired home and garden decor from rustic garden chairs to mid-century tablecloths to old art and paper ephemera.

“Occasionally, we find new hand-crafted items we think will be fun for customers,” Dena said. “And, Horse Feathers Vintage is an official retailer for Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint, which is really popular for updating furniture and painting projects.”

“We select vintage merchandise that feels unique and special. In the store, we stage items around themes and collections – like vintage kitchen, 1950s children’s games, photographs from the 1930s-40s, living room decor as well as many others,” Caroline added. “We also believe in supporting other local, women-owned small businesses and currently feature soap made in Copperopolis, hand-painted wood signs from an artist in Ceres and handmade candles from Sonora, to mention a few.”

Horse Feathers Vintage is at 1260 S. Main St., downtown Angels Camp. The grand opening will also feature refreshments and lots of fun treasures for customers to check out.

Those interested can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram (@horsefeathersvintage) to stay up to date on new merchandise, special events and discounts. The shop is open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will also open on some Thursdays and Mondays, work schedules permitting.
