Faculty Recital Presented By MJC Friends Of Music

The Modesto Junior College Friends of Music concert series is offering a Faculty Recital on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on East Campus, 435 College Ave., in Modesto. The concert is a benefit for MJC music student scholarships.

The recital program opens with a performance “Distant Galaxy,” an original piece by David Dow, featuring live electronics and video from the Hubble Space telescope; The Elegant Ladies of Jazz - Anne Martin on violin, Karen Bucio on French horn and Bev Vanderlinden on piano, playing the music of Duke Ellington, Ben Bernie and Theolonius Monk; David Chapman on guitar performing “Suite del Recuerdo” by Jose Luis Merlin, and Travis Silvers on guitar in “Santo Tirso” by Roland Dyens.

Also on the program are pianist John Hillebrandt performing Chopin’s “Ballade No. 1,” and Anne Martin and guest performer Marissa Staffero playing Telemann’s “Concerto for Two Violas in G Major” accompanied by Bev Vanderlinden on piano. The concert ends with organist Steve Grubb performing “Introitus” by Franz Liszt.

Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors (62 and better). Advance tickets are available online at www.mjc.tix.com or at the Auditorium Box Office which is open Tuesday through Friday, from noon to 5 p.m., or by calling (209) 575-6776 during Box Office hours. Tickets are also available at the Music Recital Hall beginning 90 minutes prior to the concert.

The community is invited to join the campus for an evening of chamber music for a good cause.
