SOFTBALL
Varsity softball had a difficult week, as they lost to both Central Catholic and Mountain House. Oakdale lost 13-3 to the Raiders and 5-1 against the Mustangs of Mountain House.
April 15 is usually associated with “Tax Day” but on that day Oakdale had to pay the price at the hands of the Raiders in a home game. Oakdale had a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth inning but the Raiders scored seven runs in the frame and tagged the Mustangs for another three runs in the fifth inning. Oakdale gave up four doubles in the loss. Jaelyn Lee pitched a complete game for Oakdale giving up 14 hits, nine earned runs, walked two and struck out a trio. Reese Donaldson had two hits for Oakdale. Briley Everett had an RBI triple. Grace Constance and Madi Bohannon drove in the other two runs.
Two days later Oakdale traveled to face off with first year Valley Oak League member Mountain House. Much like the Central Catholic game Oakdale scored first and had a 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, the lead evaporated as Mountain House tied it in the second inning and added two runs in both the third inning and bottom of the six for the victory. Bohannan hit a solo home run in the first inning for Oakdale’s only run of the contest. In the circle for Oakdale were Lee and Emily Thomason. Each pitcher went three innings. Lee gave up three runs, two earned on three hits. She struck out two batters and walked three. Thomason gave up two earned runs on five hits, struck out two and did not give up any free bases.
Oakdale returns to league play on April 29 when they host Manteca. The Buffaloes have won nine straight games. This will be Senior Day 2025. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. The regular season wraps up on May 1 at East Union (9-12, 2-7) with a first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
