Successful Week In Pool For Water Polo Programs

Oakdale High School’s water polo teams had a pair of road games this past week.

For the boys, it was a bounce back week as they defeated Turlock and then won a pair of games in tournament play. Tuesday, Sept. 11 Oakdale defeated Turlock on the road 12-6. Stash Perry had five goals in the win and goalkeeper Zack Hill had 10 saves. Also finding the net for Oakdale were Aron Cameron (3 goals), Ethan Perry (2), David Terwilliger (1) and Chandler Neal (1).

This past weekend they competed in the Roddy Svendsen Shootout at Merced College where they played three games. They defeated Dixon and Sanger in the tournament. In the 12-7 win over Dixon; Ethan Perry had a game high four goals. Cameron had three goals to help carry the team. Neal and Stash Perry each had two goals and Terwilliger had one goal. Oakdale followed up with a 17-7 win over Sanger. Ethan Perry and Neal had four goals in the win. Stash Perry continued his big week with a game high five goals. Cameron had three goals and Spencer Ruthman had one goal. Hill had eight saves in the win.

In girls action, Oakdale had a trio of games, going 2-1. Oakdale first edged Turlock on the road 8-7. Bethany Metcalfe had a team high four goals. Nessa DeLeon had three goals and Kayla Peterson tossed in one goal. Goalkeeper Camryn O’Neal had a dozen saves.

O’Neal continued her big week as she had nine saves against Pitman in a 5-2 road win. The keeper also had a goal from her own net to help the team to victory. DeLeon had three goals, and Metcalfe scored one as well. Oakdale’s final game of the week was a loss to Lincoln on Thursday, Sept. 13 on the road. Oakdale fell in an 11-4 final. Hannah Lee and Bethany Metcalfe each had two goals.

This week both the boys and girls were slated to travel to Bret Harte on Tuesday, Sept. 18 following The Leader’s press time. On Thursday, Sept. 20 the teams are scheduled to host Lodi.
