Softball Lady Mustangs fall short in tournament

Oakdale High School’s varsity softball girls dropped two games in tournament play on Saturday, March 16. Their first loss came to Clovis West 7-4 and that was followed up with a 4-1 lost to Hollister. The tournament was held in Clovis.

In their loss to Clovis West, Oakdale had eight hits, including a home run by Bailey Peterson. She finished the game with three hits. Madi Bohannon had three hits in the loss. In the circle were Jaelyn Lee and Reagen Everett. Lee pitched five innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs and struck out a pair. Everette pitched two innings. She gave up three unearned runs off two hits. She struck out three.

Later that day Oakdale took on Hollister. After four scoreless innings, Oakdale scored first in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Haybalers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then added two more in the sixth inning. Presley Barnes hit an RBI double for Oakdale’s lone run as Jayci Volente came across the plate. Raegen Everett pitched a complete game. She struck out three batters, and gave up four total runs (one earned).

Oakdale takes this week off and returns on March 26 when Valley Oak League play begins. Oakdale will host Sierra with a 4 p.m. start time. Oakdale will travel to Manteca to face East Union on March 28 at 4 p.m.
