It was back in late May that the Oakdale High School Lady Mustangs varsity softball squad brought home the blue banner.

Sunday, Dec. 15 the squad received their Section championship rings, signifying their victory in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs.

The D-III title for the squad marked the first time since 2014 they had secured the blue banner and the ring presentation put the finishing touches on the outstanding season.

In the run to the title, the girls compiled a 12-0 Valley Oak League record and suffered just one loss during the double elimination Section tournament. They then went on a roll, winning four games in two days at the tourney to claim the crown.

It was the top seeded Lady Mustangs against number three seed Golden Valley in the finals, with Oakdale winning the first game 3-2 and the second, in the winner-take-all championship contest, in a 12-2 blowout.

In that contest, the Lady Mustangs raced out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first and they never looked back on the way to the title. Oakdale finished the season with an overall record of 29-1-1.
