The Father’s Day weekend racing at the New Stockton 99 Speedway featured the best of the best in West Coast Stock Car racing and two of Oakdale’s own came away with main event or trophy dash honors at Saturday’s race.
In the Whelan Super Stock main event, the racing was very close. Each driver fought tooth and nail for the lead. Oakdale’s Mike Graham persevered to capture the Super Stock Main event checkered flag. After starting fifth, Graham used all of his experience to quickly move up to the front and then held on to capture his third main event win of the season. He drove a clean race with #93 Exhaust Pros/Tom’s Smog Monte Carlo and avoided trouble throughout the 25 lap main event, holding off a hard charging Jason Aquirre in his #45 Monte Carlo. Graham is now third in the season points, has won three events and one trophy dash this season.
In the Bomber trophy dash, it was all Tyler Guzman of Oakdale in his #93 Camaro. He has two trophy dashes this season and is sixth in the season points. He was in second place, ready to make his move on the leader with five laps to go in the Bomber main event, when a driver (who was one lap down) turned him around on the main straightaway. This caused him to drop to a fifth place finish in the main event. He posted the quickest track time of 17.475 seconds on the fourth lap and had the car to beat most of the main event until the incident with five laps remaining.
