Playoff Update
baseball softball

The postseason is nearing the end, but both Oakdale High School baseball and softball programs are still in the hunt for championships.

For the baseball team, Oakdale finds themselves facing Buhach Colony for the second time in three days. On Monday, May 20 Oakdale fell to the top ranked Thunder by a final of 15-6. Oakdale bounced back on Wednesday, May 22 when they defeated Atwater 3-1 behind a complete game by Josh Garcia on the mound. Garcia gave up five hits and struck out five in the win. The lone run by the Falcons was unearned on a throwing error. Oakdale had six hits in the game including an RBI double by Josh Gerber. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at Kline Family Field at University of the Pacific. A loss tonight in the double elimination tournament would end the Mustangs season. Should the Mustangs win they will be in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Championship game on Monday, May 27 against Ponderosa.

Ponderosa entered the tournament as the tenth seed and has defeated Christian Brothers, Sierra, Atwater and Buhach Colony to reach the championship game.

Softball is in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs tonight against Golden Valley. The Lady Mustangs fell to Vanden on Tuesday, May 21 by a 2-0 final in a game where both teams had to battle the high winds. Their championship hopes took a hit but did not shatter as they responded by beating Del Campo 3-2 on Wednesday, May 22. Later that night, the girls were faced with familiar opponent Vanden once again. Oakdale avenged the loss from 24 hours earlier by defeating the Vikings 3-1.

With the wins, the top seeded Mustangs will take on the third seeded Cougars. The Cougars have yet to lose in the tournament, so if Oakdale wants to win the title, they must beat Golden Valley twice. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Arnaiz Softball Complex.
