This past week the Oakdale High School volleyball teams and the golf girls saw some action in Valley Oak League play.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1 Oakdale volleyball welcomed in Kimball of Tracy for their league opener. The freshmen lost 2-1 (18-25, 25-23, 8-15). The junior varsity won in straight sets over the Jaguars 25-20, 25-13. Oakdale’s varsity team took the court and made short work of the visiting Lady Jaguars, winning in three straight sets 25-17, 25-22 25-16.

Oakdale was coached by Jenifer Guzman, the junior varsity coach as COVID-related issues have recently kept away some members of the staff and players.

“This season is one of having to adapt and show true grit for these athletes,” said Guzman. “In this continued time of change, these ladies truly step up each practice and game. They are doing a fantastic job of working together through changing roles on the court and constant shifts in which of their teammates are able to participate in athletics. Oakdale volleyball players are not taking a single step on the court for granted.”

Their lone match for this week is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 8 at East Union. Freshmen are scheduled for 5 p.m., junior varsity at 6 p.m. and varsity is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Oakdale’s golfers, meanwhile, had a busy week as they played in the Yellowjacket Invitational on Monday, Aug. 31 at Turlock Golf and Country Club before jumping into league. In the 18-hole tournament Oakdale placed second overall with a team score of 328, Lodi placed first at 308. Tori Blanc, Kaylie Parola and Hannah Herschbach each shot an 81. Scarlet Duque (85) and Janelle Velazquez (99) rounded out the day for Oakdale. In their Valley Oak League contest against Kimball on Thursday, Sept. 2, Oakdale won 238-284. On Wednesday, Sept. 8 the girls will play in the VOL Tournament play at Weston Ranch.
