Oakdale Fillies Pony Up For First Anniversary

The Oakdale Fillies are the Oakdale Baseball Softball Association U12 competitive softball team. They formed in the summer of 2018.

In the summer of 2018, Oakdale Baseball Softball Association added to their successful youth program by introducing a competitive softball team. The organization announced that they would have a U12 softball team named The Oakdale Fillies.

“We realized that there were no competitive softball teams that had pure Oakdale girls on their teams. There have been teams with Oakdale players mixed with surrounding areas on their rosters, but no team with all Oakdale girls on it, so we decided that it was time,” said OBSA president David Jablonski.

Jablonski, along with Libby Jablonski and Ben Waltman coach the team. They put together a roster of girls who were born between 2006 and 2007 and have seen the growth since their first tournament back in 2018.

“Their glove work has improved greatly. I am pleased with their efforts and improvement each day,” said Jablonski. “It’s been a big difference since their first tournament. They have grown so much and have really played well as a group.”

The Fillies have played in tournaments in several locations including Turlock, Tracy, Sonora, Modesto, Merced and more, over a dozen tournaments in all, and have captured numerous second place trophies. Their next tournament is scheduled in Sonora in mid July.

In their short existence the team has made an impact in the community including assisting the Oakdale High School softball program with their end of the year awards ceremony, helping both cook and serve at the event. They also wrapped up their inaugural Fillies Fundraiser Golf Tournament earlier this month.

The coaching staff has helped mold the young team into competitive players and Jablonski said the team has had the same goals since day one.

“We want them to excel into versatile players, who can thrive at multiple positions. Give back to the community and to help the future Fillies players reach their own goals,” he said.
