Mustang Wrestlers Pin Down 11 Spots At State Meet

Oakdale High School’s wrestling team finished second as a team at the Sac Joaquin Section Masters Wrestling Tournament over the weekend.

Over two days of competition, several Mustangs put together outstanding individual records and head coach Steve Strange said a total of 11 OHS wrestlers qualified for the California State Wrestling Championship Meet. That meet will be staged in Bakersfield this coming weekend, Feb. 25 through Feb. 27.

Among the 11 were three Section champions: Michael Torres, Carlos Garcia, and Ceasar Garza.

The following are all the state qualifiers that will make the trip to Bakersfield to continue their wrestling seasons. Names, placements and weights were provided by coaches.

 

Fifth place – Eziequel Vela, 120 pounds; Brodie Johnson, 145 pounds; Garrison Gerber, 220 pounds.

 

Fourth place – Elijah Elting, 106 pounds; Jordan Van Rys, 182 pounds.

 

Third place – Payne Perkins, 152 pounds.

 

Second place – Colton Silva, 132; Jonathan Hernandez, 138 pounds.

 

Champions – Michael Torres, 126 pounds; Carlos Garcia, 160 pounds; Ceasar Garza, 170 pounds.
