It’s not often that Oakdale High’s varsity football team gets to celebrate blowout homecoming victories in back-to-back weeks, but they capitalized on the opportunity Friday with a 55-14 shellacking of the host East Union Lancers at Dino Cunial Field.East Union’s elaborate float decorations and elegant halftime coronation did little to prevent 471 yards of total Mustang offense as Oakdale rolled to a 34-0 lead at the half and cruised to another easy Valley Oak League win. The spoiling of East Union’s big night came on the heels of an equally big win for Oakdale in their own Homecoming on Oct. 9.“I thought tonight we got better as a team, and we traveled well,” Oakdale coach Trent Merzon said. “All in all we played a pretty good game.”Devin Brooks started the game with a thrilling 88-yard kickoff return to pay dirt on the opening play. He added an 84-yard scamper-and-score down Oakdale’s sideline and watched fullback Tim House rumble to touchdown runs of 39 and 3 (two of them) yards before the half could close. Oakdale didn’t stay quiet in a second half that saw most starters on the sideline, Tanner Traub capitalizing on an accurate pass from second-string quarterback Zack Abbott to score from 16 yards out.East Union responded with their first score on a 16-yard pass from Teejay Gordon to Ricky Inderbiztin, but back-to-back rushing touchdowns from Jeff Donnally (55 yards) and Daniel Linder (1 yard) kept the Mustang lead well intact.East Union’s 1-yard touchdown plunge with 4:22 remaining did little to shadow another dazzling defensive performance from a Mustang squad that has allowed just 27 points in three VOL victories.Brooks finished with eight carries for 139 yards while House bullied his way to 15 carries for 114 yards. Linder added eight rushes for 45 yards while starting quarterback Robert Stout completed one of his two passes to Nate Madsen for 32 yards.Oakdale (3-0 VOL, 6-0 overall) will look to limit a talented offensive program in Weston Ranch on Friday, when the Mustangs take to the road once again. The Cougars (2-1, 3-3) were shut out 44-0 against Manteca, but outscored East Union and Ceres by a 62-22 total margin in consecutive wins the past two weeks.Cougar running back Deon Eley ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns last week and will look to break into the open field Friday.
