The Oakdale Stampede got the production they were looking for as all three levels of competitive action rolled to victory in their regular season home opener. The pee-wee team put together a pristine effort, smashing Hilmar 41-0, while the JV and varsity squads did themselves justice with 22-6 and 7-6 victories, respectively.

The varsity squad went into overtime to grab their first win of the season, holding off a determined Packers team with an overtime touchdown following Hilmar’s extra period score. Dillon Tamburino threw a pass to the back corner of the end zone and receiver Kyle Osbourne was able to haul it in, giving the Stampede a shot at victory with a successful PAT attempt.

The Stampede made good on the try as Darrin Powers ran straight up the gut to seal the victory for Oakdale and give the Stampede organization a clean sweep on the day.

The JV team didn’t need any bonus play, handling the Packers with an intense defensive effort that Hilmar was never able to get anything going against. Offensively, Oakdale allowed the game to stay close with five turnovers on the day, yet were still able to have their way with the Packers behind a stellar rushing attack that featured Frankie Trent, Darus Nelson and Christian Johnson.

The pee-wee Stampede had no problem bouncing back from their season opening loss, shutting the Packers out with arguably the best team effort of the day. The young Stampede squad held the Packers to no first downs and forced three turnovers in the lopsided victory.

The Stampede will look to continue with their momentum as the squad prepares to host the visiting Buhach Thunder at the Corral on Sept. 12 with rookie action kicking off at 8:30 a.m.
