South Dominates Lions All-Star Football Contest

Oakdale’s right tackle Thomas Wood and the South won the 45th annual Lions All-Star Football Classic by a final of 24-2. The game took place at Tracy High School’s Wayne Schneider Stadium on Saturday, June 16.

The South took a 10-0 advantage at halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter, scoring two late touchdowns to put the game away. Turlock High School’s Gabriel Cordero and Jordan Porter were named co-Most Valuable Players of the game. Cordero carried the ball seven times for 24 yards and scored a touchdown in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter Porter had a scoop and score from 50 yards out on a fumble recovery.

This weekend will be the 33rd annual North vs. South Rotary Bob Green Football Classic at Veterans Stadium in Merced and is presented by Carl’s Jr. Representing Oakdale and playing for the North will be Hunter Falconi, Josh Jacobson and Thomas Wood. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12 and benefits Rotary scholarships.

Last season the North won 35-21 over the South. There are 32 schools that make up the North squad out of the Sac-Joaquin Section. Notable schools represented for the North in addition to Oakdale include Central Catholic, Escalon, Hilmar, Livingston, Merced, Modesto Christian, Patterson, Pitman, Riverbank and Turlock.
