In a three-team golf match the Oakdale Mustangs overcame Manteca and Sierra at Manteca Park on Wednesday, March 21. Oakdale not only had the tall task of facing two Valley Oak League teams, but also faced tough conditions in the process. Despite high winds and a soggy course, the Mustangs remained unbeaten in league play as they defeated both Valley Oak League foes to improve to 6-0 on the season.

The Mustangs shot 213 on the day while Manteca and Sierra each shot 261. “Windy to quite windy – conditions were tough and not favorable for playing golf,” said Mustangs head coach Lee McGhee. “The wind took a toll on many shots, getting a few unlucky carries and bounces costing our guys a few strokes here and there. Overall a good performance in tough conditions.”

David Myrtakis led the team with a score of 37.

“David hit the ball well and stayed in control going only one over par on the day,” McGhee praised.

Freshman Ryan Meyer continues to have an impressive rookie season as he was one shot off the leaderboard at 38. Max Moore (41) Calvin Reed (46), Tristan Jaramillo (51) and Kyle Seese (59) wrapped up the Mustangs scorecard.

On Monday, Oakdale competed in the Turlock Crosstown Cup and took first place. In the two-three man modified scramble Oakdale took first place overall against 13 other schools. Oakdale’s first team of Myrtakis, Reed and Meyer finished at -12, shooting 60 on the day. Jaramillo, Moore and Seese formed the second team and shot +4 on the day at 76. Turlock finished the day at 140 total and placed second overall. Oakdale was the only Valley Oak League team in the tournament.

The Mustangs look to continue their winning ways as they take on Kimball and Central Catholic at Spanos Park on Wednesday, March 28. Tee time is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
