Oakdale High School’s varsity softball team is off to a perfect start. This past week Oakdale went 3-0 to improve to 16-0 overall, 9-0 in Valley Oak League action on the season.

Not only is their record perfect, but junior starting pitcher Lexi Webb pitched a perfect game against visiting Central Catholic (7-10, 3-6) on Friday, April 20. Webb retired all 15 batters she faced, striking out 12. The other three were gunned down on their way to first base thanks to defensive plays by shortstop Brittany Bye who fielded the sharply hit balls her way.

The game was shortened due to the 10-run rule, Oakdale winning in a shutout.

In the victory, Webb also helped out her team out at the plate as she hit her ninth home run of the season and drove in three runs.

“It was a game we felt confident heading into as a group. We played well as a team today, everyone contributed to the important win,” said Webb.

Oakdale had nine hits on the day, including three by Adrianna Aguilar. She is batting a sizzling .442 on the season. One of Aguilar’s hits was an RBI double. Brittany Bye also had a big day at the plate as she connected on a three-run single.

Earlier in the week Oakdale traveled to Weston Ranch (1-10, 0-9) for a doubleheader where Oakdale won both games by a final of 16-1. In game one, Mariyn Waterman pitched and earned the win. In the victory she fanned seven batters and gave up four hits. Her biggest contributions came at the plate where she went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Oakdale hit two home runs in the opener, one by Brittany Bye and the other by Grace Green. Chloe Vierra had a perfect day from the plate as she went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Outfielder Dakota Gray connected on a triple as well.

In game two, Oakdale blasted three home runs. Webb, Bye and Green all hit for distance and accounted for a total of nine RBI between them. Dylan Gonzales, Rilyn Cassaretto and Aguilar each had two RBI and Kristen Reid had one.

Waterman pitched game two and had five strikeouts in two innings of work.

The Lady Mustangs have a handful of regular season games remaining before playoffs begin in May. Today, Wednesday, April 25 Oakdale hosts Manteca (13-8, 6-4) with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. On Friday, April 27 the team will travel to Lathrop to take on the Lady Spartans (1-17, 0-9) at 4 p.m.
