After falling to Manteca on Sept. 13, the varsity girls volleyball team has regrouped and earned consecutive victories. This past week Oakdale defeated both Kimball and East Union to improve to 3-1 in the Valley Oak League.

On Monday, Sept. 18 the girls went to Tracy to take on the Jaguars, and won in three sets, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-20 for the victory. Alyssa Cogburn notched 24 assists and three aces for Oakdale. Abby Matoso and Jodie Whitley led the team in kills with six each. Whitley also led the team in blocks with two. Kailee Whorton led the team in digs with 11 and Matoso added nine to the effort.

“It was a good team win for us. We were feeling down about the Manteca game, but we could not let that define our season,” Matoso said. “There is a lot of volleyball left to play this season and we want to win VOL.”

Two days later the girls returned home and defeated East Union 3-0. It was quick work for Oakdale winning all three by scores of 25-9. Cogburn led the team in assists and blocks with 28 assists and two blocks. Brittany Gibson added nine kills and Whorton added 21 digs in the three sets.

Oakdale hosted Weston Ranch on Monday, Sept. 25 following The Leader’s press time. The girls hit the road on Wednesday, Sept. 27 to face Central Catholic in a Valley Oak League showdown. Currently, Oakdale is in third place in the standings and hopes to gain some separation in the crowded VOL field.
