Three Road Hoop Losses For Varsity Lady Mustangs

A frustrating week saw the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity team suffer a trio of road losses. The team lost to Kimball, Lathrop, and East Union over a five-day span.

The girls lost their games by a total of 72 points against the Valley Oak League teams that rank first, second and fourth in the standings. Oakdale (11-13, 3-8) fell to Kimball (19-5, 10-1) 65-32 on Tuesday, Jan. 30 in Tracy. Kimball is currently in second place in the standings and made short work of the visitors. Two days later Oakdale traveled to Lathrop to take on the first place Lady Spartans (18-4, 11-0). The Spartans are unbeaten in league action and have won 11 straight games. Lathrop defeated Oakdale 51-30. The Lady Mustangs trailed 24-14 at the half, but were nearly doubled up in the third quarter 19-10 in the loss.

Oakdale’s difficult week wrapped up when they lost at East Union (13-10, 7-4) by a 49-31 final.

The Lady Mustangs wrapped up their four game road trip at Manteca (16-8, 8-3) on Tuesday, Feb. 6 following The Leader’s press time. During this difficult stretch the Lady Mustangs played the top four teams in the Valley Oak League standings. Thursday night, Feb. 8 the team returns home to face Central Catholic (10-13, 2-9) with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Oakdale’s season concludes on Tuesday night, Feb. 13 home against Sierra (9-15, 2-9). This will be Senior Night and the team will honor their seniors Sarah Bohrer and Whitney Neilson. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale’s junior varsity girls fell to Kimball in a hard fought 35-34 contest. Freshman Amber Robinson scored 11 points and gathered a game high 20 rebounds in the loss. Robinson continued her productive week with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down a dozen rebounds in a 43-25 road win at Lathrop. Kayden Legan scored 12 points and had four steals for Oakdale. Kendra Branch added 10 points and seven steals.

 

FRESHMEN

Oakdale’s freshman team suffered a pair of road losses as they fell 35-27 to Kimball and 41-27 to Lathrop.
