Tennis Boys Split Pair Of League Matches

Two matches on the court recently produced one win for the Oakdale High School boys tennis team.

On the road, Oakdale took care of business by defeating Weston Ranch 9-0 but fell to visiting Kimball on Thursday afternoon 8-1.

In the road win Oakdale’s singles got the rout started with a pair of 6-1, 6-3 wins by both Angel Padilla and Liam Peters. Frankie Dutra defeated Tony Arteaga 6-4, 6-0. C.J. Toledo made short work of Juan Pasqual in straight sets by not giving up a single point in his 6-0, 6-0 victory for the Mustangs. Shivam Mistry outlasted Vinny Vang 6-2, (4-6), 12-10 to keep the momentum up for Oakdale. Teo Diaz also won in three sets 6-4, (3-6), 10-7 over Chris Orpiola.

The team of Matt Kjeldgaard and Chris Frye continued to mesh well as the duo defeated Alex Yav and Michael Hiller 6-3, 6-3. Aaron Lowe and Brady Noel won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Rounding out the day, Zach Neilson and Gustavo Gutierrez won 6-1, 6-0.

Two days later Oakdale hosted its home opener but the Jaguars played spoiler as they swept the Mustangs singles and took two out of three in the doubles. The team of Jose Santos and Jordan Kraude were the only ones to come out on top with their dramatic three set finish over Allen Vocal and Walter Gerstenberger 6-2, (5-7) 10-8.

Oakdale is currently 3-2 in Valley Oak League action and were scheduled to be back on the home court on Tuesday, April 3 to host East Union following The Leader’s press time. The Mustangs travel to Lathrop on Thursday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m.
